Amy O'Connor
Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
Amy is a compassionate and attentive therapist dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can openly explore their difficulties and experiences. With a collaborative approach, Amy works alongside clients to understand their unique needs, empowering them to gain insight, build resilience, and achieve meaningful, lasting change.
Experience
Since 2009, Amy has worked across a wide range of mental health services, gaining expertise and insight into the needs of individuals at various stages of mental health care. Her career began with supporting adolescents facing a variety of mental health difficulties, then moving into adult mental health services in 2011.
She was driven by a strong desire to offer evidence-based treatment to clients to support them in their recovery journeys. With this goal in mind, she specialised in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), completing the necessary qualifications to provide a structured, effective approach to mental health care. This has enabled her to deliver high-quality, research-backed interventions to those in need, enhancing their ability to manage and overcome a range of mental health difficulties.
Amy obtained her formal qualification in CBT in 2015 and has since been working as an accredited therapist. She received specialist training for supporting clients with long-term health conditions in 2018.
Due to her dedication to clients and the improvement of mental health services, she obtained a Clinical Lead role where she managed a large team of therapists within an NHS service. In this position, she was responsible for ensuring safe, effective treatment and fostering high standards of care for all clients across the service.
In 2021, Amy began working at a university training CBT therapists and clinical psychologists because she wanted to contribute to the next generation of mental health professionals and ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care in NHS services. This role allowed her to combine her clinical expertise with a passion for education, where she lectured on mental health disorders and their associated treatment plans, focusing on how to apply CBT in real-world settings. Additionally, she supervised students' clinical practice, guiding them in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver effective therapeutic interventions and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
